Nerja                 16th     Fiesta de la Virgen del Carmen,         Fishermen's Feast Day, Marine Procession    carrying the Virgin in the fishing boats. Celebrated in the fishing districts of Malaga and other Andalusian towns, this festival pays homage to the Virgen del Carmen with spectacular parades on the sea and on dry land. On the evening of the 16th, an image of the Virgin is carried on a dais around the neighbourhood before being placed on a boat covered with flowers, which sails down the coast with an accompanying fleet. Of course, no fiesta in Andalucia would be complete without the ritual partying, featuring plenty of traditional song and dance

Sayalonga            2nd or 3rd weekend     Local Fiesta,  entertainment is provided by well known singers and artists. The party atmosphere can be enjoyed well into the early hours of the morning, or until the body can take no more. Fireworks announce the start of the fiesta on Friday morning; it finishes on Monday morning when the last stragler leaves for home. 2010 dates are 16,17,18th.

Competa             23-25th   Feria San Sebastian,   Summer Fair, This is a pagan celebration , but its origin is religious, in honour of San Sebastian. It starts with firing rockets. For the 3 days the streets are adorned with banners and flags. Although the main part of the celebration including dancing is in the Plaza Axarquia, the whole town is decorated. Seats are installed to enjoy food and drinks. There are Fandango competitions and performances of choirs and groups of dancers. On the last day morning, Mass is celebrated and in the afternoon there is a Pilgrimage in honour of San Sebastian. Andalucian knights accompanied by beautiful girls wearing traditional costumes take part in the Festival which is one of the biggest events . In the evening is the election of the Festival Queen and her Maids Of Honour.
