ALGARROBO,  20th         Dia de San Sebastian

COMPETA,   20th        Feria del Barrio,   San Sebastian,  23rd and 24th celebrations.  The Festival of St Sebastian is celebrated with special affection in Competa, because he is the patron of the local people. Although the official date is the 20th celebrations are often nearer the weekend, in the Feria del Barrio, where you will find his Chapel. There is normally a picnic and an evening procession, carrying his statue, to the shrine.  San Sebastian was the head of the imperial guard of Dioceciano. He cared about his brothers, the poor and imprisioned and brought them the Eucharist. He was sentenced to die as a soldier, i.e. in front of archers, but the arrows did not kill him. Later he was convicted to die by being beaten with sticks.

FRIGILIANA   20th,     Fiesta San Sebastian,   The Patron Saint of Frigiliana.    Villagers walk bare foot through the streets, carrying the statue of San Sebastian and candles
